Many types of building and renovating work will require land use planning, or development approval. Development is when building work, plumbing or drainage work, operational work, reconfiguration of a block or making a material change of use of premises is carried out. In many cases, you will be required to submit a development, building or plumbing form to council for assessment. Development applications are assessed according to the Sustainable Planning Act 2009 (opens in new window).
You can find information on the development approval process, approval statistics, subdivisions and fees and charges in this section. Go to ‘ Application forms & checklists’ to download application forms for building, plumbing drainage, development engineering and planning. You can also find information on how your development application is assessed.
When purchasing a property it’s important to consider there may be outstanding requisition orders on the property. Contact council to help you look in to the history of the property.
