Our region Transport Cycling & walking Walking and cycling

Walking and cycling are healthy and economical ways to get around Toowoomba and the many other towns in our region if you are a resident or visitor.

Children can use pathways to get to and from school or visit a friend. Families and tourists can get out for an enjoyable bike ride along some of the pathways that meander their way through picturesque parks and alongside creeks and wetlands. Workers and students can benefit from walking or cycling to work or school by incorporating exercise into their day, spending time outdoors in the fresh air and spending less money on transport costs.

For the adventurous cyclist or walker, there are a number of walking and mountain bike trails along the escarpment offering scenic bushland views. See the walking and cycling items below for some suggested walks and bike rides.

Most pathways in Toowoomba are shared by cyclists, skaters, wheelchair users and walkers with the exception of some footpaths in the city centre which are designated as no-go zones. These cannot be used by cyclists and skaters between the hours of 9am and 9pm. Remember to wear a helmet, obey the road rules and use front and rear lights for night riding. To help plan your next walking or cycling trip or to view a map of all pathways, refer to related documents below for pathway brochures.

Council has installed a number of 'watch for cyclists' signs along popular cycle training and commuting routes in Toowoomba. The aim of these signs is to encourage motorists to look out for cyclists using these roads and to share the road safely with them. Remember cyclists are legitimate road users.

Queensland Transport's website (opens in new window) has some helpful tips on how cyclists, pedestrians and motorists can share paths and roads safety.

Cycling and walking are recognised as important sustainable transport choices for shorter trips and enjoyable recreational activities. Find out what future developments council has planned by viewing the Toowoomba Cycle and Pedestrian strategy in the related documents below.

If cycling and walks information for the area you require is not listed on this page, please contact your local service centre
