Walking and cycling are healthy and economical ways to get around Toowoomba and the many other towns in our region if you are a resident or visitor.

Children can use pathways to get to and from school or visit a friend. Families and tourists can get out for an enjoyable bike ride along some of the pathways that meander their way through picturesque parks and alongside creeks and wetlands. Workers and students can benefit from walking or cycling to work or school by incorporating exercise into their day, spending time outdoors in the fresh air and spending less money on transport costs.

Council's Toowoomba Cycle and Pedestrian Strategy (TCPS, 2002) provides a plan of action to improve walking and cycling conditions in Toowoomba through facilities and programs.

The vision for the TCPS is:

  • Toowoomba is a cycle and pedestrian friendly city with a network of accessible, integrated, convenient and safe shared paths, on-road cycleways and crossing treatments.
  • Facilities are in place to support people cycling and walking* such as signage, bike parking, drink fountains, toilets and showers.
  • People of all ages and capabilities are more informed of travel options available and choose to cycle and walk some of their trips, knowing they are contributing to a cleaner environment and at the same time improving their own health. A "Healthier Toowoomba" is evolving.

* Note: includes wheeled recreational devices such as skateboards and use of wheelchairs and other mobility aids.
