The town of Clifton with a population of 1,255 welcomes visitors with country hospitality and a relaxed atmosphere. It is located 49kms south of Toowoomba on the New England highway and was once a large wheat growing area. It now has a diverse range of agriculture including cattle, cereal crops, sunflowers, peanuts, and honey production.
The town has a community centre and library. Sports facilities include: a 25m indoor pool; golf course; and racetrack. The town has a local co-op hospital and medical centre. There is a child care centre and several schools in the town and surrounding area.
