Wastewater from the township of Westbrook is currently treated at a small temporary wastewater treatment plant located off C. Blackwell Road. With this plant at capacity, excess wastewater flows are currently being tankered to the Wetalla WRF.
A new pump station will be built on council owned land at the corner of Crocker and Shoesmith roads. Sewers and flows from existing pump stations will be diverted to the new sewage pump station.
The new pump station will pump to the Kooringa Valley sewage pump station (off Hermitage Road near Boundary Street) which in turn will pump to the Wetalla WRF via a new pressure main/gravity main approx 14.4 km long. The pipeline will be DN 375mm pressure pipe and DN 600mm gravity main pipe generally following existing roadways.
Upon commissioning of the new pump station and pressure main/gravity main, the old treatment plant will be decommissioned. The new pump station will be a wet well type pump station housing submersible pumps with active stand-by.
The trunk gravity sewer to the pump station has been sized to accommodate population growth over the medium term with a pump station upgrade and an intermediate pumping station required for the longer term.
