Our region Major projects Wastewater Infrastructure projects Highfields sewage pumping station and transfer main (to Wetalla Water Reclamation Facility)

Highfields is currently serviced by a Sequenced Batch Reactor (SBR) treatment unit located at Browne Road on the western side of Highfields.  The current plant loading of 320-350 kL/d exceeds the nominal plant capacity.

A new pump station is to be built at the existing treatment plant site and flow diverted to Wetalla WRF via a new pressure main/gravity main approximately 11.5km long.   The pipeline - DN 300mm and DN 375mm dual pipes - will generally follow existing roadways.  A crossing of Gowrie Creek will be made near Wetalla WRF.

Upon commissioning of the new pump station and pressure main/gravity main, the old Browne Road plant is to be decommissioned and the existing bioreactor converted to emergency storage for the pump station.  The pump station will be a wet well type pump station housing submersible pumps with active stand-by.

The trunk gravity sewer to the pump station will be sized to cater for proposed development at Highfields. The sewer – nominal DN 750 mm - from Browne Rd to the sewage pumping station will be required to operate under pressure during emergency events and will include an aerial section through the adjacent gully.

The Highfields pump station will have the capacity to take future sewage flows pumped from the sewered areas in Meringandan West.
