Our region Major projects Toowoomba Regional Planning Scheme FAQ What happens now that the new planning scheme has been adopted?

The new planning scheme was adopted by council on March 20, 2012. It is due to commence on July 1, 2012.

The current planning schemes continue to operate until the commencement of the new planning scheme. All properly made applications up to the commencement of the new planning scheme will be assessed under the current planning schemes.

After the commencement of the new planning scheme in 2012, the current planning schemes will be referred to as superseded planning schemes.

After the commencement of the new planning scheme, an applicant has the opportunity for 12 months to request that council assesses their application under the superseded planning scheme. Council may agree to the request or refuse in which case compensation provisions contained in Chapter 9, Part 3 of the Sustainable Planning Act 2009 may apply.
