What is the Queens Park Master Plan, and what will it achieve?

In 1994 a Master Plan for Queens Park was released by the former Toowoomba City Council. Since its release, Queens Park has been listed on the Queensland Heritage Register as a place of cultural and heritage significance to Queensland. The new Master Plan will acknowledge this and will require the support of the Department of Environment and Resource Management to ensure that the park's heritage is protected.

The outcome of the master planning process will be a long-range blueprint for the future development and programming of Queens Park. Conceptual in nature, the Master Plan will encompass a broad spectrum of ideas that will guide and prioritise future directions within Queens Park including Vera Lacaze Park and the Queens Park Gardens, while protecting the parks rich heritage values. Within this, the Master Plan will include a maintenance plan which will address park issues as well as ensuring that the unique heritage qualities of the park are conserved. The Master Plan will identify key challenges and opportunities for the park by providing a clear and deliverable plan which ensures that the interests of Queens Park are upheld as the city of Toowoomba grows.

The Master Plan for Queens Park will:

  • Provide a long term vision for the park
  • Protect the heritage of the park
  • Consider the needs of current and future users of the park
  • Establish a framework that will guide future directions.
