Laws & permits Parking, roads & footpaths Changes for minor traffic offences

On 1 January 2012, council changed its local laws which affect parking across the region. Details of the new local law can be found in Laws & permits - Local laws - View subordinate local laws - Subordinate Local Law No. 5 (Parking) 2011.

Areas of possible interest include:

  1. Parking fine amounts have been increased. Amounts for each fine type can be found in Related documents (at the bottom of the page) - 'Parking fine amounts'. For example:
    • Failure to pay a parking meter or 'pay & display' is now $40.
    • Exceeding maximum indicated time on a free but limited parking area is now $50.
  2. Parking permit conditions have changed. In particular, for households within the Toowoomba City regulated parking area, you are now limited to two permits. To apply for new parking permits, please find the application forms in 'Related documents' below.

Fine increases have been made in accordance with council's indexing against State Government regulations (penalty units). Refer to Schedule 3 of the Parking subordinate local law referred to above for more information. Council has chosen to only apply 1/4 to 2/5 of the State Government penalty amounts.

These changes came into effect on 1 January 2012. However, an extension has been given for 2011 parking permits until the end of January 2012 to assist with this change.

If you have any questions about these changes or their impact on you, please contact us.
