Air pollution

Maintaining a quality lifestyle also means ensuring our environment is free from offensive smells, dust and smoke. Council's Environmental Health Officers respond to public complaints and requests for inspection regarding a variety of issues.

Nuisances which council has authority are referred to below:

• Dust occurring from the vacant land in preparation for sub-division or on residential land and some commercial land
• Light occurring on residential land and some commercial land
• Odour from spear pump, council sewage treatment plant, septic tank, dewatering or general issues(eg. fertiliser, pesticides, waste, builders toilet)
• Smoke from backyard burning or chimney smoke operating on residential land and some commercial land
• Spray drift occurring on residential and some commercial land

Nuisances outside of council's authority include:

• Private sewage treatment plant - local office of the Department of Environment and Resource Management
• Bushfire smoke - local office of Queensland Fire and Rescue Services
• Smoky vehicle - local office of Queensland Transport
• Cigarette smoke - local office of Queensland Health
