Graffiti is the illegal and wilful damage of property. It is a crime under the Queensland Criminal Code Act. It is ugly and expensive to remove and Toowoomba Regional Council is committed to removing and preventing graffiti in our communities. But it needs your help to do so.
If you see any graffiti call or email council's Graffiti Busters hotline on 0746 590 042. Or report graffiti and vandalism to your local council service centre.
Most graffiti occurs on exposed walls and fences and is usually in the form of messages in letters or images, written in spray paint, permanent marker or even etched into the surface with a sharp instrument. Graffiti that is left intact attracts more graffiti and the problem grows.
Help council stay on top of graffiti by taking measures to prevent it, or by making sure it is cleaned as quickly as possible.
You can make your home or business less attractive to graffiti vandals a number of ways. Restricting access to walls or fences by planting vegetation in front of them reduces the canvas for vandals. You could also consider landscaping instead of fencing.
Graffiti vandals like smooth surfaces, so walls and fences made from textured and uneven material, such as mesh, grilles and lattices are less prone to graffiti. Anti-graffiti coatings can also prevent graffiti from being absorbed into the surface.
