Council is able to appoint advisory committees for the purpose of providing advice and recommendations to Council on specific matters. Council is also a member of various external organisations whose terms of reference relate to Council's business.
The Expenses Reimbursement Policy for Councillors authorises the payment of reasonable expenses and the provision of facilities associated with the discharge of Councillors' duties and responsiblities.
Councillors are required to provide a Statement of Interests containing financial and non-financial particulars of the Councillor as prescribed by regulation. Those sections of the Statement of Interests relating to gifts and hospitality benefits received and membership of organisations must be made public by Council (s.248 of the Local Government Act 1993).

Following the quadrennial Local Government Election in 2008, Council adopted a "one committee" system with all eleven Councillors members of the Committee. The Committee is called "The Committee of the Council".
The business of Council has been divided into ten portfolios with each Councillor being assigned a portfolio, with the exception of the Mayor. Each Councillor is referred to as the Portfolio Leader of their particular portfolio.
Members of the public can petition Council on any matter which the Council has the power to act. The attached provides details of preparing a petition for submission to Council and how the petition is then dealt with by the Council.

S.1132 of the Local Government Act 1993 allows the Chief Executive Officer to delegate the Chief Executive Officer's powers (including powers delegated to the Chief Executive Officer by the Council) to another employee. All delegations must be recorded in a register and the register must be open to inspection.
S.496 of the Local Government Act 1993 states "a local government may engage in or help an enterprise if the enterprise concerns a matter that, in its opinion, is directed to benefiting, and can reasonably be expected to benefit, its area or a part of its area." From time to time, Council provides assistance to organisations or community groups to stage an event which will bring an economic benefit to the Region. The Register records these occasions where assistance is provided.
