Two nights of free outdoor cinema in Toowoomba on Friday and Saturday this week will be held to mark Queensland’s 150th anniversary of statehood.
Residents are invited to join the Q150 Film Festival in Frog’s Hollow, Queens Park.
Each program starts with a short screening from the National Film and Sound Archive at 6.30pm.
Friday’s program: Five minute National Film and Archive film, family movie Happy Feet (rated G 98 mins) followed by an interval. Session two starts at 8.45pm with short film Aunty Maggie and Womba Wakgun (10 mins). The final film is 48 Shades (rated M 96 mins).
Saturday’s program: Short film from 6.30pm followed by Nim’s Island (rated PG 96 mins). The second session opens at 8.45pm with short film Bloody Footy followed by All Men Are Liars (rated PG 90 mins). The films selected have a particular connection to Queensland.
In the event of inclement weather, the screenings will be moved to indoor venues.
Friday night’s (November 13) program will shift to the Empire Theatre in Neil Street and patrons can watch Saturday’s (November 14) films at Centenary Heights State High School Assembly Hall if conditions prevent outdoor viewing.

Highlights of the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers 60th anniversary commemorative DVD will be shown during the interval on each night’s program.
The DVD includes archival footage of the Carnival of Flowers starting in the 1950s and from each subsequent decade. Funds for the DVD were provided by the Q150 Community Funding Program.
Food and drinks will be available for sale each night. Patrons are encouraged to bring a rug or a chair to enjoy the outdoor screening.
People interested in learning about movie making can attend a free interactive film workshop on Saturday, November 14.
Budding actors and directors can hear about the processes involved in movie making and post production work.
The free workshop will be held from 10.30am to noon at Toowoomba City Library in Victoria Street.
