Toowoomba city greenwaste service aids recycling Print E-mail
Thursday, 19 November 2009 11:47

Toowoomba Regional Council is encouraging eligible residents to consider applying for a greenwaste service to promote garden waste recycling.Toowoomba city residents can apply for a greenwaste wheelie bin, which is collected fortnightly on the same day as the weekly waste bin service.

Grass clippings, leaves and small branches with a diameter of 15cm or less can be placed in the greenwaste bin. Pot plant bases, outdoor furniture and plastic bags can not be recycled. Degradable and recyclable plastic bags are not compatible with council’s greenwaste recycling program. Compost needs to be free of all contaminants.

The greenwaste service diverts organic garden matter from the city’s landfill to be composted and re-used.
Apart from the environmental benefits, at $17.50 per half year, the service is an economical way to recycle this material.
Residents who wish to visit the Waste Management Centre can leave greenwaste for composting. This material is used on public gardens and open space areas around the city.

There are around 17,000 greenwaste services in use, which represents half of Toowoomba’s eligible residential properties.
To order a greenwaste wheelie bin or an additional service, please contact council’s Finance branch on 4688 6810.
Other greenwaste enquiries can be directed to council’s Environmental Health Services branch on 4688 6824.
