Building and Development Approvals

If you are planning to build a new home or make alterations to your existing home or outbuildings on your property, please be aware that most building work of a structural nature requires a Development Approval for Building Work.

While there are some exceptions, it is important to obtain the right advice before you commence any work to protect your investment.

Building advice, a wide range of standard plans for minor works, complete pre-lodgement checklists and application forms can be obtained at Toowoomba Regional Council’s various service centres from Monday to Friday.

For details of the service centres across the region go to Contact us (new window) page.

Carrying out building work means

  • Building, repairing, altering, underpinning (whether by vertical or lateral support), moving or demolishing a building; or
  • Excavating or filling (relating to the construction of a building).
