The 2009 National Inspection of Australian Navy Cadets was held recently in Toowoomba with 71 local cadets being acknowledged at a ceremony attended by Toowoomba Regional Council Mayor Peter Taylor.
Cr Taylor was at Training Ship Toowoomba on Rowena Park, Harristown to meet with the cadets and present Duke of Edinburgh awards to eight worthy recipients.
This year the group was awarded the largest number of Duke of Edinburgh Awards of any unit and Cr Taylor said he could easily understand why the group was being recognised at the highest levels.
“I was honoured to be invited to the parade and was very impressed by the professional and disciplined manner in which they conducted themselves,” Cr Taylor said.
“These young people are to be congratulated on the commitment and enthusiasm they have shown and I wish them every success in their continued studies – especially if they are working towards a future defence force career.”
