Toowoomba based artist Chelle McIntyre creates abstract landscapes and environments through the sgraffito, cutting and re-assemblage of recycled vertical joint wallboards.  Her exhibition Wall-to-wall assemblage will offically open Sunday 1st November at 2:30pm by Maryrika Welter at the Crows Nest Regional Art Gallery.  The exhibition will be on display at the gallery until the 22nd November 2009.

 

 

 

Toowoomba based artist Chelle McIntyre creates abstract landscapes and environments through the sgraffito, cutting and re-assemblage of recycled vertical joint wallboards. 

The abstract landscapes of the Environment is house series reflects the artist’s continuing investigation into self and its relationship with place. As the house may represent an individual’s space, both physical and psychological, the tongue and groove timber wallboards become a metaphor for the inner self. The process of identifying and challenging personal philosophies and belief systems is represented by the cutting, assemblage and sgraffito of the material. Whereas earlier series dealt with the mental struggle of adapting to a new place, the abstract landscapes here express how the artist has somewhat reconciled the changes brought by her move to regional Australia. This has enabled her to look outwards and consider the wider surrounds as an integral part of her evolution.
