It’s a sport that has stood the test of time for centuries and if the members of the Toowoomba Croquet Club have any say it in – it will be around for centuries more.

The club has recently submitted an application to the Queensland Government Gambling Community Benefit Fund for an upgrade to its Lindsay Street premises.

Toowoomba Regional Council Mayor Peter Taylor said council was right behind the submission and he had supplied a letter of support to the club.

If the $18,000 bid is successful, the club has plans to upgrade its headquarters with fresh paint and new exterior cladding.

Cr Taylor, Member for Toowoomba North Kerry Shine and Member for Toowoomba South Mike Horan were among guests invited to the club last week to take part in a social day and try their hand at the sport.

“It was a fun day and I was very pleased to be invited along and get the chance to test the skills needed to be a croquet player,” Cr Taylor said. “I think I’d better keep practising.”

“It’s a credit to the club and their volunteer members for the work they do and I wish them every success in securing the funding for their building improvements,” Cr Taylor said.
