Toowoomba Regional Council is inviting residents and interested groups to have their say on the future of the region’s sport and recreation facilities and programs.
Eight community forums will be held across the region on Monday, October 26 and Tuesday, October 27. Sessions will be held at Highfields, Hodgson Vale, Toowoomba (north) and Cambooya on October 26 followed by meetings at Pittsworth, Toowoomba (south), Crows Nest and Kingsthorpe on October 27.
Ideas and information from the sessions will be considered in council’s work on a Regional Strategic Sport and Recreation Plan (2011-2031) and an open space study to serve present and future community needs.
Financial and Sporting Services portfolio leader Cr Mike Williams said public input was welcome to ensure a wide range of community views was recorded.
“Council encourages individuals to offer any suggestions or ideas about delivering sport and recreation programs or how we can improve community access to our facilities,” he said.
“We want to know what residents think about parks and sporting facilities and how they might be improved.
“The results of the studies will shape the delivery of sporting programs, funding and planning for various facilities in the future.
“Individuals and interested sporting or community groups have a chance to be directly involved in informing council’s programs. I urge people to have their say in a critical part of the region’s future.”
Residents who can not attend any of the workshops, or who would like more information, can contact workshop consultants ROSS Planning. Please call Dion Collins on 3901 0730.
Residents can contact council on 4688 6611.
Cr Williams said the project was assisted by funding from the Department of Communities (Sport & Recreation Services)
