Visitors to the Hampton Visitor Information Centre regularly stop just to take in the history of the 100 year old building. Some like to wonder at the pioneering spirit of the first settlers, others like to reminisce about their days growing up in a similar home, some like to marvel at the simple but effective architecture of days gone by and many simply like to experience the character that radiates from such a building. The warmth emanating from the honey coloured hoop pine walls and the wide planks of the tallowwood floors mixed with the smell of the linseed oil finish make this a delightful place to pick up tourist information, talk to a local and linger awhile.
The Hampton Visitor Information Centre (VIC) is located in Chapman Park at the crossroads of the New England Highway and the Hampton-Esk Road, 32kms north of Toowoomba. The centre is funded by Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) and is one of two fully accredited visitor information centres within the TRC region, the other being the Toowoomba VIC.
Visitors to the centre can expect to find comprehensive information on local attractions as well as tourist information for Toowoomba and the Darling Downs and all of Queensland. The centre sells a range of local produce, souvenirs and refreshments, has a public Internet facility and has disability access.
Chapman Park, where the centre is located, has convenient parking for cars, coaches & caravans, as well as a playground, picnic facilities and toilets (including disabled), making it a handy resting point on a long journey. It is also a designated overnight rest area for caravans and motor homes.
The Hampton VIC aims to provided quality information and friendly service to visitors and the local community whilst highlighting the diversity of experiences in the region and supporting the local tourism industry.
