Facilities & recreation Sport & leisure facilities Swimming pools Toowoomba - Milne Bay Aquatic Centre (MBAC)

The Milne Bay Aquatic and Fitness Centre, located on the corner of Herries and Victoria streets, is a popular and totally modern leisure complex. It is open every day of the year except Good Friday and Christmas Day. It aims to provide a balanced program of aquatic, fitness and recreational activities to suit anyone interested in a leisurely swim, daily training or a fitness class.

The aquatic centre offers water-focussed pastimes for all ages. For the little ones there is a tot’s pool with bubble jets and sprays while older children can enjoy the mushroom waterfall, shipwreck boat slide, 45 metre enclosed flume, and geysers and sprays in the lagoon leisure area.

The main 25-metre indoor pool incorporates an exhilarating wave function or it can be used without the wave motion as a six-lane formal pool.

Just through the wide glass doors is the outdoor heated, eight-lane, Olympic sized 50-metre pool which caters for lap swimming, squad training, swim lessons and aqua fitness.

At Milne Bay Aquatic and Fitness Centre the emphasis is on pleasant, sensible ways to acquire or maintain fitness. Overlooking the outdoor pool is the Bayview Gym, fitted with the latest in training and toning gear. Aerobics and aqua fitness classes are popular at the gym and a fully qualified instructor is available for health and fitness appraisals.

A professionally designed Young at Heart program caters for those over 50 who realise the positive benefits of exercise customised to their capabilities. Sessions include non-impact Aqua Gentle in the heated indoor pool and others like Tai Chi and Fit Body in the aerobic room. All classes cater for a range of fitness levels and physical conditions. The Senior Strength and Relaxation program is aimed at improving muscle strength, bone density, heart and lung function and flexibility.

Hydrotherapy and learn to swim classes take place in the separate program pool while the nearby spa and sauna offer blissful recreation.

Refreshments are also available at the centre’s Beachfront Café.
