Arrangements through a funeral director will need to be organised. Discuss with them how soon you wish the service to take place, whom you wish to officiate at the service, the type of service you wish to have and the burial option you wish to have. Your funeral director will guide you through these decisions and make these arrangements on your behalf.

A funeral director makes arrangements with coucil's cemetery staff to use a new interment site, or to re-use an existing site.  Once an application has been received from the funeral director, council will issue an Interment Permit.  Council keeps records of the site number, name of deceased, age of deceased etc.  Our cemetery groundspersons arrange for the digging of the grave and where possible, for facilities to be available at the funeral service such as grave lowering device, temporary shelter, chairs etc.  Your funeral director can organise a celebrant or other religious services.  Council can also provide a quotation for the supply and installation of a memorial plaque.

No you don’t have to phone council to arrange anything, your funeral director can organise everything for you.

Our friendly Council staff are happy to speak to you though, should you have any questions. Click here for contact details.

You can find the location of grave sites by clicking on our Deceased Search here.

Council has a wide range of plaques available for purchase. Alternatively, you may make your own arrangements with a stone mason or plaque manufacturer. Should you chose this option, a Permit is required together with lodgement of the relevant fee.

No council does not operate a cremation service. You will need to speak to your funeral director or a crematorium.

It may be possible. To find out if another interment can take place in an existing grave, please speak to your funeral director or contact us
