CressWater is a most precious resource. Our unique geographical situation on the top of the Great Dividing Range along with past droughts and seasonal dryness has caused the Toowoomba region to rethink its use.  Our rainfall can be irregular and unreliable so we need to be conservative and water-wise in our water use.

Toowoomba bulk water supply provides treated drinking water to communities connected in the Oakey, Goombungee, Crows Nest and Highfields service areas.  It has three different water sources - supply dams, underground bores and connection to Wivenhoe Dam via a pipeline.

Drinking water is currently supplied by three major dams - Cressbrook, Perseverance and Cooby - several basalt bore stations and some that tap into the Great Artesian Basin, all supported by a connecting pipeline from Wivenhoe Dam.  This pipeline link acts as a lifeline for the growing needs of Toowoomba region providing a secure and sustainable future for our region.  Several thousand residents supplement this treated water with rainwater captured in domestic rainwater tanks for use outdoors, and for use in toilets and the laundry washing machine.
