Environment & Waste Water supply & dams Business users Visitor accommodation Water efficiency in traveller accommodation

Saving water is everyone's responsibility. To help visitors save water, traveller accommodation* providers are required under council's Permanent Conservation Measures to clearly display information about water conservation measures.

'Traveller accommodation' is defined as accommodation provided for use by members of the travelling public as part of a commercial transaction. Examples of traveller accommodation include hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, resorts, hostels, backpackers, caravan parks farm stays, serviced apartments, boarding houses, guest houses and short stay dwellings.

This information about water conservation measures must be displayed:

  • in every bathroom within an accommodation unit on the premises and
  • in every shared bathing facility or ablution block on the premises.

This requirement also provides an opportunity for operators to promote other water efficiency measures being undertaken on the premises.

Accommodation providers can use support material from Queensland government agencies by downloading and printing the information from Qld Water Commission or the Department of Environment and Resource Management

Your industry association may also be able to assist in developing materials.
