Toowoomba City Council welcomed the results of the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce survey which showed significant support for the Water Futures Project. Fifty seven percent of the businesses surveyed supported the project with forty percent opposing it and three percent abstaining.
"Business needs the confidence of a reliable water supply", Mayor Thorley said.
“Water Futures will provide a safe and sustainable water supply well into the future."
“It shows that business people are realistic in facing up to the challenge of supplying water to our community and understand the science behind recycling,” she said.
“We cannot rely on alternatives that aren't viable or are too expensive.”
Mayor Thorley empathised with the difficult position of the Chamber’s board members, who until today, couldn’t take a position on the Water Future’s issue.
“The board must be relieved to finally be able to advocate for the majority of their members who support the Water Futures project.”
"I look forward to working with the Chamber as we educate the wider community about the Water Futures project.”
