WHAT: Launch of Water Futures Video and Interactive Computer Program
DATE: Friday June 16, 2006
TIME: 9am – 10am
WHERE: Toowoomba State High School, Wilsonton Campus
WHO: Mayor Cr Dianne Thorley

BACKGROUND: Mayor Dianne Thorley will be launching an interactive computer program about water with a Year 10 class at Toowoomba State High School.

The interactive program was developed with a school audience in mind; in particular high school aged youth. The program is intended to provide the students with an educational tool that allows them to explore the water cycle. It contains in-depth information about Toowoomba's water situation, our water sources, up-to-date facts and figures through live links to TCC’s website and information about the water treatment processes at an Advanced Water Treatment Plant.

Council anticipates this program will have wide application within Toowoomba's schools.

The Friday launch will be held in a computer laboratory so that the students can test-drive the program and a projector will be used for demonstration purposes.

In addition, a Water Futures Video will be launched on Friday. The video is a short introductory film that puts Toowoomba's unique water crisis into context and introduces the idea of recycling water for reuse.

The video goes for approximately 17 minutes and we intend to begin the session with the video.

Photo opportunities.
