Launch of the Water Futures – Toowoomba ‘Water Book’

Finally there is an information book to answer all your water questions.

The ‘Water Book’ being launched today, Monday March 20, 2006, is the Council’s first all-encompassing water information document.

Several months in the making, the Water Book is designed to be a comprehensive and objective book, which may be used as a resource by schools and the general public.

“The Water Book sends the message: understand the water cycle and take responsibility for your place within it,” Water and Wastewater portfolio chair, Cr Joe Ramia said.

“The public has been asking for more information about the Water Futures – Toowoomba project. With this book Council offers the facts about our current water situation, our future water source options and the details of the proposal to recycle our water,” Cr Ramia said.

“Council is committed to community engagement. We know some people have questions and concerns and we have a responsibility to provide them with answers, so that’s what we’re doing.”

Toowoomba City Council is nearing a milestone of 100 community presentations, which Cr Ramia said was evidence that the information was getting to the public. He said feedback from presentations was generally positive.

Printing and distribution of the book is expected to take three to four weeks. Every household in Toowoomba should receive a copy of the Water Book by the end of this month. Council is also supplying copies of the book to those parts of neighbouring shires supplied with Toowoomba water.

“There has been a good deal of misinformation being disseminated about Toowoomba’s water situation throughout Australia recently. Through the Water Book, Council aims to provide a thorough and earnest account of our situation so that people can reach their own conclusions from an informed perspective,” Cr Ramia said.
