Environment & Waste Water restrictions Permanent water conservation measures explained

This is the current water restriction level for Toowoomba, Highfields, Crows Nest, Oakey and Goombungee, Greenmount, Cambooya, Vale View, Wyreema and Hodgson Vale areas connected to town water supplies.

Permanent Conservation Measures were introduced on 11th December 2010.

A summary of conditions of water use when at this water restriction level is as follows...

Prohibited

Use of town water for the following activities is not permitted:

  • Hosing of paved surfaces.
  • Filling of rainwater tanks with town water by water truck, for properties connected to town water.

Permitted

CategoryDetails
Established gardens and lawns - using a bucket or watering can, hand held hose with trigger or twist nozzle, water efficient* irrigation system or water efficient* sprinkler.

No watering on Mondays. Any other day before before 10:00 am and after 4:00pm.

*Refer to fact sheet for more information about water efficiency requirements.

Watering for Persons with special circumstances- gardens only.  Watering concessions do not apply to this restriction level. Conditions are the same as for Established gardens and lawns.
Newly established lawns. Watering permitted on any day for 21 days after establishment before 10:00 am and after 4:00pm.
Motor vehicles (including caravans and boats). Wash vehicle at any time with a bucket filled directly from a tap, hand held hose (fitted with a trigger or twist nozzle) or high pressure cleaning unit.
Care of animals
Water may be used for animal welfare and survival purposes, including: 1. drinking water; 2. washing of animals (using hand held hose with trigger or twist nozzle), and 3. cleaning of pens and enclosures with high pressure cleaning unit.
Paved areas.
Water may not be used to clean paved surfaces except to the extent necessary to deal with significant soiling or prevent material risk to health, safety or the environment.
Private pools. No restrictions apply to filling newly installed swimming pools, spas, renovated swimming pools and spas. Topping up of existing swimming pools and spas are subject to conditions including required water efficiency measures.
Buildings (private dwellings).
Washing permitted at any time with a bucket filled directly from a tap, hand held hose (fitted with a trigger or twist nozzle) or high pressure cleaning unit.
