recyclableEvery year, the average Australian family produces an enormous amount of rubbish.  In fact, enough rubbish to fill a three bedroom house. 

So take a look around your home because there are so many things that can be recycled.  From items in your kitchen such as milk and juice containers or glass bottles and jars to junk mail in your letterbox, all are recyclable and should be placed in your yellow-lidded recycling bin. Items that CAN be placed in your yellow-lidded recycling bin:

  • Paper and newspapergroup_glass_1
  • Cardboard
  • Empty pizza boxes
  • Egg cartons
  • Magazines and junk mail
  • Glass bottles and jars (clear, green or brown glass only)
  • Steel cans
  • Aluminium cans
  • Empty aerosols
  • Juice and milk cartons
  • Plastic bottles and containers (not those which have contained hazardous materials)

 

Items that CANNOT be recycled in your recycling bin:

  • Crockery or china
  • Drinking glasses
  • Mirrors, plate glass or light bulbs
  • Disposable nappies, tissues or paper towels
  • Foil wrapping or ribbon
  • Garden waste or kitchen scraps
  • Chemicals, gas bottles or oil
  • Polystyrene foam
  • Clothes or fabric
  • Plastic furniture, hose or pipe
  • Syringes
  • E-Waste (computers, TV's etc)
  • Building material - concrete, bricks and timber

Taking every opportunity to place all recyclable items in your recycling bin helps the environment by conserving natural resources and reducing the volume of materials sent to landfill.
