Be bushfire prepared

If there is a fire in the area:

1. Listen to the ABC radio for updates Emergency services network on 747AM or 104.9FM or click on abc.net.au/southqld

2. Put on protective clothing
3. Drink lots of water
4. Move car/s to a safe location
5. Close windows and doors and shut blinds
6. Bring pets inside and restrain them (leash, cage or secure room) and provide water
7. Wet down sides of buildings and shrubs in the likely path of the bushfire
8. Turn on sprinklers in garden for 30 minutes before bushfire arrives.

Checklist

1. Check garden hoses and firefighting equipment (including standby pump)
2. Clear fences around the house of rubbish and undergrowth
3. Check all screens - doors, windows and roof vents
4. Ensure roof is in good condition and gutters clear of leaves and rubbish
5. See that the under-floor area is fully protected
6. Remove fuels from near buildings.
