
If there is a fire in the area:
- Listen to the ABC radio for updates Emergency services network on 747AM or 104.9FM or click on abc.net.au/southqld
- Put on protective clothing
- Drink lots of water
- Move car/s to a safe location
- Close windows and doors and shut blinds
- Bring pets inside and restrain them (leash, cage or secure room) and provide water
- Wet down sides of buildings and shrubs in the likely path of the bushfire
- Turn on sprinklers in garden for 30 minutes before bushfire arrives.
Checklist
- Check garden hoses and firefighting equipment (including standby pump)
- Clear fences around the house of rubbish and undergrowth
- Check all screens - doors, windows and roof vents
- Ensure roof is in good condition and gutters clear of leaves and rubbish
- See that the under-floor area is fully protected
- Remove fuels from near buildings.
