Elders are important to our community in many different ways.
Council’s commitment to older residents is to assist them by providing advice and recommendations relating to older residents’ issues experienced by the community.
Council provides a range of older persons’ development services which vary across the region.
Some of these services include:
In Clifton and Greenmount, we provide a Seniors’ Week morning tea and during Seniors Week we have a lunch in many of our areas to recognise our elders.
There are volunteer opportunities for seniors at Crows Nest Art Gallery, Hampton Visitor Information Centre and at other council-supported events like Australia Day and during Christmas celebrations.
We provide older persons’ services in the following areas:
The HACC program provides funding for services that support people who are frail aged, younger people with disability and their carers, who live at home and for whom it's hard to live independently.
There are many HACC services that aren't managed by council, but there are three that come under our care.
Fees and charges differ with each service and clients are responsible for the supply and cost of materials.
Australia’s longest-running vaudeville show was held at the Oakey Cultural Centre on last year. Nearly 400 regional residents aged 50+ attended. The free morning tea and Theatre Royal performance featured Australia’s legends of variety, Patti Allen and Delores Rose, Musical Director Dennis Price and guest star David Bermingham.
The free show was a council initiative and a direct outcome of the 50+ workshops held across the region.
