Aged Care Skills Formation Strategy

One of the major challenges facing the disability and aged care sectors is ensuring an adequate supply of committed and quality workers to meet the increasing demand for services. Toowoomba region’s Aged Care Skills Formation Strategy is a two-year project focused on addressing this challenge. The strategy is an initiative of the Department of Education, Training and the Arts in partnership with Toowoomba Regional Council. It aims to bring together aged care service providers, training organisations, employment agencies, unions, consumer groups and other stakeholders to tackle the issues that are currently hindering workforce planning and development.

An enthusiastic Sector Representatives’ Group works on the skills needs and mix for the industry, the image of aged care work and ways to attract young people. Opportunities for collaboration with the disability sector are also pursued where cross-overs are identified.
