We strive for the Toowoomba region to be access-friendly and to represent the interests of people with access issues (including physical, social and cultural).
Our commitment to local people with a disability is to assist them by providing advice and recommendations relating to disability issues experienced by the community.
Council hosts a Regional Community Safety and Access Advisory Committee, Access Sub-committee and Community Safety Sub-committee to ensure the needs of the community are met. We encourage 'whole of community' ownership when it comes to ensuring the Toowoomba Regional Community Access Plan and associated initiatives are implemented.
One of our successful projects has been the Scented Garden at Laurel Bank Park which provides a guided walk through a sensory-based landscape.
What's up in disability - magazine
The Community Development and Facilities branch of council proudly prints this bi-monthly magazine. The branch also produces a regular column in the magazine.
Home and Community Care (HACC)
The HACC program provides funding for services that support people who are frail aged, younger people with a disability and their carers, who live at home and for whom it's hard to live independently.
There are many HACC services that are not managed by council, but there are three that come under our responsiblity:
- Clifton Home Maintenance
- Millmerran Service Centre Home Maintenance Service
- Oakey-Jondaryan Shire Home Maintenance.
Fees and charges differ with each service and clients are responsible for the supply and cost of materials.
