The Economic Development Branch maintains a (Sensis-based) Business Directory of all regional enterprises and a regional Economic Profile (produced annually).  It also maintains more detailed industry briefs, along with trends and opportunities.  The branch provides the following services:

  • Introduction to the business environment and community;
  • Key industry/infrastructure developments;
  • Site search, including zoning (land and property), with financial bench-marking; and
  • Supply chain assistance, be it suppliers or service agencies.

Council works with various partners to maximise the potential of all enquiries and to avoid service duplication (links open in a new window).

  • The Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation (DEEDI) brings together specialist knowledge, networks and services to work with significant businesses and industry sectors. In this way it will help deliver an economy and way of life to benefit all Queenslanders. Improving job opportunities for individuals is a DEEDI priority, as is assisting businesses to start-up, expand and respond to challenges like climate change and carbon trading. DEEDI is marketing Queensland to the world as a great place to do business and is helping take Queensland products to new markets while continuing to expand traditional markets.
  • Local Chambers of Commerce. Local associations of business owners who meet regularly to discuss common issues, concerns and opportunities within their own forums.
  • Austrade The Australian Trade Commission, Austrade, is the Australian Government's trade and investment development agency and helps Australian businesses of all sizes, across all sectors, to succeed in international trade and investment. Operating through a global network of offices in more than 100 locations in over 55 countries, Austrade offers practical advice, market intelligence and ongoing support to Australian business. At the national, level Austrade share global commercial insights with other areas of government. At the industry/sector level, Austrade works closely with business, industry and governments. At the individual enterprise level, Austrade delivers services, programs and initiatives to help Australian businesses and attract foreign investment.
  • Regional Development Australia (RDA) Regional Development Australia (RDA) is a partnership between Australian, State, Territory and local governments to strengthen regional communities. The national network of 55 committees is made up of local leaders who volunteer their time to work with government, business and community groups to deliver better services to their regions. The committees work with their communities to find ways to deal with the economic, social and environmental issues affecting them. Their first job is to produce a regional plan which will guide the committees in supporting improvements for their communities.
  • The Federal Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations is the lead government agency providing national leadership in education and workplace training, transition to work and conditions and values in the workplace. DEEWR works in collaboration with the states and territories and is committed to providing easy and informative access to services and support programs and works directly with clients and stakeholders. DEEWR provides access to online services and information, guides to employment information, government assistance, jobs, careers, training, working conditions and Indigenous Employment Centres with direct access to JobSearch, and Careers.
  • AusIndustry is the Australian Government's principal business program delivery division in the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research and is committed to delivering business services that build on three key drivers of economic growth - innovation, investment and international competitiveness. AusIndustry offers both entitlement and concession programs. For grants-based programs, customers compete for limited funds, based on the merits of their application.
  • The Department of Education and Training (DET) was established to engage Queenslanders in life long education and training and to build a strong arts and cultural sector which enriches the lives of Queenslanders. Key priority areas include early childhood education, student and school performance, curriculum implementation, training and skilling Queensland, workforce reform, and policy development. The goal is to position Queensland's education and training portfolio as equal to the nation's leader over the next three years.
