New Zealand's first Masters Games were held in Wanganui in 1989. Since then, the city's facilities and support for mature sports people have gone from strength to strength.

Wanganui is one of New Zealand's most charming provincial cities. It abounds with historic buildings, preserved from the early days of European settlement, along with beautiful parks and gardens filled with native plants and bird life. Located on the lower west coast of the North Island, Wanganui is an easy three hour drive from the capital Wellington, or six hours from Auckland.  There are daily flights to and from Auckland and Wellington International airports.

The games offer top-quality participation in over 64 sporting disciplines involving more than 7,000 visitors, with a top class entertainment programme in relaxed and welcoming surrounds. They're traditionally held in February, usually New Zealand's warmest month and most settled weather.
