Flower of Takatuski: Unohana Deutzia - These gregarious flowers were found around the Tama River area in the town of Saime during the Heian period (800AD to 1200 AD). People came to "moon-watch" and see the Unohana flowers for inspiration to write poetry.
Tree of Takatsuki: Keyaki, Zelkova - Around 1300AD, the Keyaki tree was known as "tsuki no ki" which means 'a strong tree'. It was later changed to "keyaki". One such tree grew to 60 metres providing a thick canopy making the day appear like evening.
