New council appointments are expected to create wider opportunities for sporting and recreation groups in the region.
Co-funded by the State Government via the Local Sport and Recreation Jobs Plan Program, two Sport and Recreation Officer positions have been created.
Anna Barrett, Sport and Recreation Officer (South), will support groups south of Taylor Street, Toowoomba including those in Millmerran, Cecil Plains, Pittsworth, Clifton, Cambooya, Hodgson Vale and Westbrook.
Dominic Doyle, Sport and Recreation Officer (North), will assist clubs north of Taylor Street including those groups in Oakey, Goombungee, Quinalow, Kingsthorpe, Highfields, Meringandan, Crows Nest and Yarraman.
Anna and Dominic are offering to provide support to all not-for-profit sport and recreation clubs within their respective geographic regions.
They can provide advice on governance and sourcing appropriate avenues of support and funding, develop networks and assist collaborative approaches to sport and recreation in local communities, and advise on marketing and promotion strategies with specific attention to attracting and managing significant events.
Anna and Dominic are expected to work closely with the recently reappointed Sports Tourism Officer Andrew Allpass in coordinating support of local sporting organisations with development of their events.
Andrew's appointment, along with the two new sport and recreation officers, will allow a combined effort to enhance the success and profile of the region's sport and recreation clubs.
