About Council News & publications Newsletters Milne Bay Aquatic Centre reopens after refurbishment

milneBayAquaticCentreCouncil's Milne Bay Aquatic Centre (MBAC) has had a major facelift, but the changes are not only cosmetic.

The indoor pool section reopened in late April after a six-week refurbishment which represented the first major work undertaken at MBAC in 14 years.

The improvements enhanced safety, aesthetic and environmental features at the centre.

The indoor section was repainted while new non-slip flooring was laid throughout, pool grates and 25-metre pool lane ropes replaced and several large murals installed to improve visual appeal.

The refurbishment included the installation of a water treatment plant that allows the recycling and reuse of up to 98% of its water. Well above the national industry standard, this is believed to be one of the highest water retention rates in the nation.

Meanwhile, pool users can be assured that they are swimming in one of Australia's cleanest pools.

Centre management will now turn their focus to the outdoor 50-metre pool area during the winter months.
