mobileLibraryCouncil’s new mobile library will be temporarily off the road while minor adjustments are made to its design. It will be back mid July delivering an extended service across the region. Any resident of the TRC area can join the library all you need is proof of address and you can borrow immediately. Seventeen cemetery registers dating back to around 1885, have been transferred from the Drayton and Toowoomba Cemetery to the Library. The registers list the name of the deceased, cause of death (pre 1920s), date of death and burial, funeral director, burial site and name of the Minister conducting the burial service.

No less than 161,000 seedlings will mature into blooming beauties in the city’s public parks and gardens by the time the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers occurs in mid September.

Approximately 77,000 annual seedlings and 9,000 bulbs will transform Laurel Bank Park along with some 4,000 annuals in areas of the CBD.

The installation of $150,000 worth of lighting means local clubs, such as junior football and touch football, and the local community can now hold night practice sessions and evening events at the reserve.

Residents and visitors to Toowoomba are reminded not to park in disability parking bays unless they display a Disability Parking Permit.

Disability parking spaces are designed for people who require a wider parking space to use mobility equipment. Drivers who park in a disabled space incorrectly, or without a displayed permit, can be fined $100. Disabled parking bays are sign posted and often marked with a painted wheelchair symbol.

In Japanese culture, the crane is a symbol of freedom, and tradition holds that when 1000 origami paper cranes are made, one wish will be granted.

In light of March's devastating natural disasters in Japan, the Toowoomba Japanese Group, in conjunction with council's Library Services and Customer Service Centre, coordinated a community crane-making blitz that saw not just 1000, but over 6500 paper cranes made.
