Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has commissioned a new master plan for the future of Queens Park.
Members of the community are invited to have their say and share their ideas on the future of what is Toowoomba's most significant civic and historical park.
Tourism, Events and Parks portfolio leader Cr Joe Ramia welcomed the master planning project and urged the community to get involved.
"The success of the Queens Park Master Plan relies on community involvement, so we can get a full understanding of the issues and opportunities for Queens Park," he said.
To that end, members of the public are invited to a Community Meet in the Park on Sunday, February 19 from 10am to 1pm at the Lindsay Street side of the park near the Craft Market.
Stage one community feedback closes March 1. To make a comment please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or to find out more information please call TRC on 131 872.
Cr Ramia said the Master Plan for Queens Park would provide a long-term plan for the park while protecting its heritage and taking into account the needs of current and future users of the park.
"As Toowoomba grows and evolves, it is important that Queens Park grows with it."
The Master Plan will establish a framework to guide future council decisions and ensure the park's potential for passive and active recreation is enhanced.
Eighteen years ago, in 1994, a Master Plan for Queens Park was released by the former Toowoomba City Council. Since its release, Queens Park has been listed on the Queensland Heritage Register as a place of cultural and heritage significance.
The new Master Plan will acknowledge this and will require the support of the Department of Environment and Resource Management to ensure that the park's heritage is protected.
