About Council News & publications News releases Final version of council’s planning scheme now awaits Minister approval

The final draft of council’s new regional planning scheme was unanimously approved by council yesterday.  The Scheme will now proceed to the Minister for Local Government for final sign-off.

This approval follows the consideration of advice and policy issues raised by various State Government agencies. Submissions from residents and businesses received during the public consultation period in July-September this year were considered at previous Council meetings.

Council is now satisfied that the new regional scheme is consistent with state policy and relevant legislation.

Planning and Development Services portfolio leader Cr Peter Marks said yesterday was the culmination of three years spent preparing the new regional planning scheme.

‘This important planning document has been a priority project for this council, in its first term, because of its economic, environmental and social importance to the Toowoomba Region.  The scheme remains on track to be adopted and operational in early 2012,’ he said.

‘The new scheme reflects the aspirations of our broad community of interests; including residents, business people and various interest groups.’

‘Today we see the final version of the scheme that has taken three years of research, drafting and community consultation.’

The new regional planning scheme will become operational in 2012 following receipt of the Minister’s agreement for Council to formally adopt it.
