The qualification of Environmental Health Officer (EHO) is internationally recognised as a professional health qualification with officers providing advice and strategic leadership on existing and emerging environmental health issues.

 

The environmental health workforce is responsible for the development, implementation and enforcement of environmental health policy and legislation in Queensland, and as an EHO with Toowoomba Regional Council, you will provide a valuable service to the Toowoomba and Regional communities by evaluating and controling issues within our environment that may impact on human health.

This can include:

  • Ensuring environmental health risks are identified and managed
  • Responding to health issues such as environmental pollution, air, water, noise and light; food safety and hygiene; communicable disease; domestic and industrial waste management; and the emergency management
  • Maintaining effective monitoring and surveillance systems
  • Contributing to the management of a sustainable environment
  • Providing evidence-based public health information and advice to the general public
  • Power to intervene when public health and safety has been compromised
  • Taking action against public health and safety problems to protect and promote health, and prevent illness
  • Provide leadership and support to various programs and services designed to protect the public.
